Chennai Express on its Dream Run..

Chennai Express has had a fantastic run at the box office. The film has held up exceptionally well since its release on the paid previews. The response to the film is mixed, but that doesn’t seem to affect the box office performance of the film til now. Monday being a first working day since Chennai Express release, is going to determine its fate.

It all started with paid previews on Thursday. It was the widest release for paid previews as it released on approximately 800 screens across the country. The paid-previews collected around 6 – 6.5 crores at the domestic box office. The Shahrukh Khan starrer managed to break the 4 year old record of 3 Idiots which collected Rs 2.75 crore a day before its actual release on 25th December 2009. To be fair, a very few movies have had paid previews since 2009.

On Opening day (Friday) which was a Eid-holiday across the country, the response was phenomenal. Chennai Express collected huge 29.32 crores on its first day. Chennai Express fell a little short of the opening day record of Ek Tha Tiger which was 30.52 crores. The gap was in the core Hindi markets of of North, Central and Mumbai. It fared better in the Southern markets.
Chennai Express recorded the highest second day collections of all time comfortably beating Ra.One by about 3.50 crore as Chennai Express collected whopping 26.50 crores.

Sunday is looking phenomenal again. The collections are looking to come better than Saturday collections. The weekend has seen all records smashed as the film will easily go over 90 crore nett for the weekend including paid previews. On Monday, Chennai Express wil become the first film to collect 100 crores in just 4 days. Previous record was 5 days which was set by Ek Tha Tiger on Eid in 2012. While Chennai Express is going to collect 100 crores in just 4 days, Shahrukh's last release Jab Tak Hai Jaan did it in 20 days.
