The third weekend was the fifth highest of the year after Chennai Express, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Aashiqui 2. Coincidently it is also the fifth biggest hit of 2013 after the above mentioned films.
The film has Monday and Tuesday where it can add another well to its total but then it will get a huge reduction screens be it multiplexes or single screens when Besharam releases on Wednesday.
The week should be around 7.50 crore nett which will take the film to over 90 crore nett.

Phata Poster Nikhla Hero collected around 4.5-4.75 crore over its second weekend (Lesser than Grand Masti's third weekend), the drop from the first weekend is around 75%. The ten day total of the film is around 34.75 crore nett.

Music Review: War Chhod Na Yaar (2013)

Director: Faraz Haider Cast: Sharman Joshi, Soha Ali Khan & Jaaved Jaaferi Music Director: Aslam Keyi  Lyricist: Faraz Haider, Bebak Amrohi & Azeem Shirazi
1- War Chhod Na Yaar - (Bappi Lahiri, Rimi Dhar & Candy Dzouza): Fairly catcy song, but nothing special. Gets too serious but fails to hit right spot. Though message is good. Rating 2/5
2- Main Jaagun Aksar - (Javed Ali, Ali Aslam & Shreya Ghoshal): Qawwali influence and some good lyrics. This song is not exceptionally well, but good to listen if you miss old Alka-Udat romantic songs. Javed Ali sounds more like Sonu Nigam in this song. Rating 3.5/5
3- Phat Gaya - (Daler Mehndi): Forgetable song with ordinary lyrics. Daler Mehndi is hugely wasted here. Rating 1/5
4- Mharo Desh Mahaan - (Kailash Kher): Nothing special in the song except lyrics are patriotic. Rating 1.5/5
5- Khwabon Si Jo - (Naresh Iyer): The song is just tolerable. Too old composition. I don't think someone will ever want ot hear it twice. Rating 1/5

Week 39; Box Office Report (PPNH, Grand Masti)

Phata Poster Nikhla Hero had a low first week as it collected around 30 crore nett. The weekday collections were fairly steady but low. The first week collections are actually the highest ever for a Shahid Kapoor starrer beating Mausam which had collected 28 crore nett in week one.
Phata Poster Nikhla Hero has done best in Nizam and Andhra while collections in East Punjab and West Bengal were lower than other circuits comparatively. Delhi city was also poor.
The shows of the film have come down in week two despite no major competition and the film will have an uphill task reaching 40 crore nett espevially as its really just a five day week with Besharam releasing on Wednesday.

Grand Masti has collected over 83 crore nett in two weeks as it added 19.50 criore nett in its second week. The drop was a little lower than 70% which is good with this genre.
The film did not get the jump on the second Saturday and Sunday that hit films normally get probably due to the fact that the family audience…

Business Touching 2000 Crore In First Three Quarters

The business of Hindi films in the domestic marked has neared the 2000 crore nett mark in the first three quarters. The equivalent business last year was 1725 crore which is an increase of around 15%.

The last quarter in 2012 was a slight downer despite adding 650 crore as films like Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Talaash and Khiladi 786 did not live up to expectations. The line up for the last quarter this year is just phenomenal and 1000 crore can easily be added in last three months. The comparison over the first three quarters in 2012 and 2013 is as follows. (No dubbed films included, only Hindi and Hinglish)

2012 - 1725 crore (119 releases)

2013 - 1975 crore (126 releases)

The final total in 2012 went to 2375 crore with 165 releases. The multiplex and digital revolution started in 2006 and in that year the collections were 925 crore nett. The business has increased three fold over the last seven years.

India's Most Dangerous Celebrity; Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra has been named as the most dangerous celebrity online in India. Chopra has beaten last year’s ‘winner’ Sunny Leone to get top spot.
The study, carried our by McAfee (security software maker), saw Leone fall to ninth position. Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan followed Chopra in the top three positions. The study is aimed at discovering which particular celebrities cyber criminals use the most. Kareena Kapoor and Akshay Kumar also make the list in the top five.
Talking about the results and cyber crime, Venkatasubrahmanyam Krishnapur, from McAfee told Hindustan Times, “In India where celebrities enjoy demigod status, cybercriminals often use their names to lure people to sites which host malicious software designed to compromise personal details and disrupt devices”.
Chopra topped the list because, when searched online, her name showed up a total of 79 malicious sites.

The Male Factor Behind The Blockbuster

If Salman Khan or Shahrukh Khan owes it to anyone for the record-breaking first day first shows that set the trend of their blockbuster and 200-Crore films, it's men. 81% of audiences on the opening day of a Hindi film are males, a research done by a Mumbai based entertainment industry research and consultancy firm, Ormax Media, has found.

"The Ormax Bollywood Audience Report 2013", a syndicated industry study conducted by Ormax Media also found that nearly every three out of every four movie-goers are under the age of 30. 63% of box office revenue come from viewers aged between 15 years and 29 years, and that money spent on film hoardings is largely a wasteful investment.
The research conducted in 44 cities over six months covered a total sample size of over 5,000 respondents in two stages.

Weekend Box Office Report; PPNH, Grand Masti, SDR, The Lunchbox

Phata Poster Nikhla Hero grossed around 19.50 crore nett in the first weekend. The film had decent weekend growth but opening point was too low therefore overall weekend collections remained low.
The film saw its best business in single screen circuits while areas like Mumbai, Delhi and Punjab and if these places don't perform it is tough for the film to go anywhere.
The weekend trend was decent so the weekdays can remain steady but the collections will be on the lower side which means a low lifetime total.
The 1st weekend breakdown is as follows:
1st Day (Friday): 5.30 Crore 2nd Day (Saturday): 6.50 Crore 3rd Day (Sunday): 7.70 Crore Weekend: 19.50 Crore

Grand Masti had a decent weekend of around 12.25-12.50 crore nett. The film did run out of steam a bit as it failed to get a big jump on its second Saturday which is the normal for hit films. This was always likely as this genre does slow at some point of time and it had gone through the first week with rock solid growth.
The collections …

Super Stardom of "The Salman Khan"

Nowadays, if you witness festive atmosphere for a Hindi movie outside theatres in India, specially single screen theatres and fans are seen garlanding huge posters of the hero in the film, breaking coconuts, playing music from some of his older hits, dancing on the streets, you should understand you are witnessing super stardom of Salman Khan.

From Maine Pyar Kiya to Dabangg 2, one thing has remained constant and that is the Salman Khan mania. His fans call it "Salmania". What makes Salman a mega star of Bollywood, The type of stardom only a few in the history has experienced? Did Salman become superstar after Dabangg? Let's see what Joginder Tuteja had to say after the success of Wanted. "So is Salman Khan back after a rather poor run with Yuvvraaj and God Tussi Great Ho? Industry doesn't quite believe so. Don't be shocked because as per practically each and every film personality that this writer reached out to, the verdict is common - 'Salman Khan was…

Weekly Box Office Update: Grand Masti and Shuddh Desi Romance

Grand Masti had an excellent first week of around 65.50 crore nett. It is the fourth highest opening week of the year after Chennai Express, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Race 2 but all these films were wider releases as they all went above 3000 screens while Grand Masti was 2100 screens approx.
The film has is excellent all over with business in West Bengal and Mysore being lower compared to other circuits. Mumbai, Delhi/UP, East Punjab and Rajasthan are all fantastic.
Now it remains to be seen if the film has enough momentum to take it to the 100 crore nett mark. This will depend on the second weekend, normally steady business in weekdays and a 65 crore first week would suggest an easy 100 but it has been this with this genre when the drops start they are very rapid.
Verdict: SUPER HIT

Shuddh Desi Romance had a 8.50 crore nett second week taking its two week total to around 45 crore nett. The drop week on week is 76%.
The best business for the film has come in Rajasthan where the final fig…

Movie Reviews: Phata Poster Nikhla Hero

Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi Produced by Ramesh Taurani, Ronnie Screwvala, Siddharth Roy Kapur Written by Rajkumar Santoshi Starring Shahid Kapoor, Ileana D'Cruz, Padmini Kolhapure Music byPritam
CNN IBN: If you're willing to set your expectations accordingly, there's some fun to be had in the low-IQ comedy, 'Phata Poster Nikhla Hero', particularly in the film's breezy first half. But writer-director Rajkumar Santoshi fails to stick with this cheerfully harebrained tone in the film's second half.I'm going with two out of five for 'Phata Poster Nikhla Hero'. It loses steam at the halfway mark when the laughs suddenly dry up. Rating 2/5

Bollywood Hungama: PHATA POSTER NIKHLA HERO brings back memories of old-fashioned comic entertainers. There's not much of a plot here, but you go with the flow without making much effort. You laugh, celebrate the silly gags and by the time the story reaches its conclusion, you realize that the film has won you over w…

Movie Reviews: The Lunchbox (2013)

Director: Ritesh Batra Producer: Anurag Kashyap, Guneet Monga, Karan Johar, Siddharth Roy Kapur, Arun Rangachari Writer: Ritesh Batra Cast: Irrfan Khan, Nimrat Kaur, Nawazuddin Siddiqui Music: Max Richter
CNN IBN: I'm going with five out of five for 'The Lunchbox'. The greatest love stories are the ones that make you root for the protagonists to come together, despite their destinies. This film illustrates how love transforms the unlikeliest of people; it breaks down Saajan's walls and gives Ila the courage to fly. Treat yourself to 'The Lunchbox' - it'll leave you with a craving to seek your own little happiness. The best film I've seen in a long time. Rating 5/5
Bollywood Hungama: A well-told old-fashioned romance, THE LUNCHBOX gracefully unknots the trials, tribulations, fears and hopes of everyday people sans the glamour that the city of Mumbai has become synonymous with. On the whole, THE LUNCHBOX is a standout film, a sumptuous treat that's sure to …

Music Review: Baat Bann Gayi (2013)

Director: Shuja Ali Cast: Ali Fazal, Gulshan Grover & Anisa Music Director: Harpreet Singh (All Tracks) Lyricist: A.M. Turaz, Rajiv Pal Singh Rana & Ubaid Azam Azmi
1- Naseeba -(Ash King): Who can forget "I Love You" from Bodyguard and singer's beautiful voice? Ash King is back with a beautiful soothing composition. The song may not feel any special, but will grow on you. And Ash King has just done justice to the song. Beautiful lyrics. Rating 4/5
2- Dance Karna -(Sardaar Ali & Ash King): It's Bhangra time now. Heavy Punjabi flavour mix with some English rap. If you like Punjabi music, you'll like it very much. Rating 3.5/5
3- Man Tu Shudi -(Sonu Nigam): Sonu Nigam at his best. Beautiful song and equally beautifully sung. Lyrics are awesome. Composition is good. Rating 4/5
4- Bhago Mohan Pyare -(Nakash Aziz): Semi finalist of Indian Idol 2005 Nakash Aziz with a fun song. Composition is fine so song is. But this is not the song you will like to listen multipl…

Music Review: Krrish 3

Director: Rakesh Roshan Cast: Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut, Vivek Oberoi Music Director: Rajesh Roshan Lyricist: Sameer
1- Raghupati Raghav - (Neeraj Shridhar, Monali): It's meant to be a dance number. It starts diffirentaly but as the song goes on, it feels strictly average. Nothing special, be it music or lyrics. This song surely will look awesome on screen because of Hrithik's dance abilities, but it has nothing musically. Not impressive. Rating 2/5
2- Krrish Krrish -(Anirudh Bhola, Rajesh, Mamta): It’s supposed to be a racy, mysterious and suspense evoking number and this is anything but that. Enough said. Rating 1/5
3- Dil Tu Hi Bataa -(Zubeen Garg, Alisha Chinoy): It's musically better song specially because of Zubeen's magical voice. Interesting mixture Arabic and eletronica sounds but the whole impact of the song is just OK. Rating 2.5/5
4- You Are My Love -(Mohit Chauhan, Alisha Chinoy): Outdated song. Only refreshing thing in the whole song is Moh…

2nd Weekend of Shuddh Desi Romance & 1st Weekend of Grand Masti.. Box Office Report!

Grand Masti had an excellent weekend with collections in the 40 crore nett range. It is a huge number for the film as this weekend is meant that most of the distributors have recovered 80-90% of the money paid for it over the weekend.
Mumbai was sold for 8.50 crore and the weekend share will be 8 crore. East Punjab fetched 2.40 crore and the share is a little under 2 crore. The film has scored all over with Mumbai circuit being the stand out performer with around 15 crore nett business.
The film may find it tough to sustain over the long run as at many places the Sunday growth was not quite there but the job has been done by the initial and the film is a big winner.
Grand Masti had the fourth highest opening weeeknd of the year and in terms of cost it is the lowest budgeted film of the top ten openers listed below. Below are the highest collecting weekends of the year.
1. Chennal Express - 87,00,00,000 2. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani -61,87,00,000 3. Race 2 - 48,17,00,000 4. Grand Masti - 40,00,0…
