Short Music Review: Phata Poster Nikhla Hero
Music Director: Pritam
Lyricst: Irshad Kamil
Starring: Shahid Kapoor and Ileana D'cruz
1- Tu Mere Agal Bagal Hai - (Mika Singh): Wacky lyrics, happy music arrangement, Mika at his exuberant best. A good number for a film like Phata Poster Nikhla Hero. Rating 3/5
2- Main Rang Sharbaton Ka - (Atif Aslam, Chinmayi): Splendid use of guitars, Atif Aslam and Chinmayi do an equally commendable job. Chorus is brilliant. Awesome Lyrics. A must-listen song. Rating 4.5/5
3- Hey Mr. DJ - (Benny Dayal, Shefali Alvares & Shalmili Kholgade): Some pleasantly surprising elements in its arrangement for a dance track. Sounds like 90s dance number and stops being fun after a while. Half point extra for singers. Rating 2/5
4- Mere Bina Tu (Duet Version) - (Rahat Fateh Ali Khan & Harshdeep Kaur): Rahat's fabulous rendition over Pritam’s flowing arrangements. Harshdeep Kaur’s husky voice and the understated chorus give the song amazing feeling. Rating 3/5
5- Dhating Naach - (Nakash Azi & Neha Kakkad): Energetic, Tabla sounds good. Neha and Nakash are equally energetic behind mic. Masala fun. Rating 2.5/5
6- Janam Janam - (Atif Aslam): Soulful rendition, a heartwarmingly beautiful ode to the mother! Beautiful. Rating 4.5/5
7- Main Rang Sharbaton Ka (Reprise) - (Arijit Singh): It doesn't work as much. Arijit seems oddly flippant in his version. Though not bad, actually good but Atif's version is better. Rating 3/5
8- Janam Janam (Reprise) - (Sunidhi Chauhan): A more soothing arrangement this time with combination of keys and strings. Sunidhi's brilliant delivery. Rating 4/5
9- Mere Bina Tu - (Rahat Fateh Ali Khan): Solo version without Harshdeep. Equally good as the duet version. Rahat is fablous. Rating 3/5
10- Janam Janam (Sad Version) - (Atif Aslam): Atif returns in the much shorter Sad version to do yet another soulful rendition. Rating 4/5
Note: This album is much better than expected for a film which looks Complete Masala from trailer.
