Weekend Box Office Report; PPNH, Grand Masti, SDR, The Lunchbox

Phata Poster Nikhla Hero grossed around 19.50 crore nett in the first weekend. The film had decent weekend growth but opening point was too low therefore overall weekend collections remained low.

The film saw its best business in single screen circuits while areas like Mumbai, Delhi and Punjab and if these places don't perform it is tough for the film to go anywhere.

The weekend trend was decent so the weekdays can remain steady but the collections will be on the lower side which means a low lifetime total.

The 1st weekend breakdown is as follows:

1st Day (Friday): 5.30 Crore
2nd Day (Saturday): 6.50 Crore
3rd Day (Sunday): 7.70 Crore
Weekend: 19.50 Crore

Grand Masti had a decent weekend of around 12.25-12.50 crore nett. The film did run out of steam a bit as it failed to get a big jump on its second Saturday which is the normal for hit films. This was always likely as this genre does slow at some point of time and it had gone through the first week with rock solid growth.

The collections for ten days is around 76 crore nett and as the film did not get the big growth in its second weekend the 100 crore nett mark looks out of its reach but still a 90 crore nett plus lifetime is huge for a film like this which is just a 35 crore approx investment. The distributor share alone for the film will go above 45 crore.

Verdict: SUPER HIT

Shuddh Desi Romance grossed 8.50 crore nett approx in week two taking its two week total to around 45 crore nett. The drop week on week is 76%. The two week distributor share is 22.50 crore approx. Below is the second week territorial breakdown of the film.

Mumbai Circuit - 2.40 crore
Delhi/UP - 2.23 crore
East Punjab - 93 lakhs
West Bengal - 53 lakhs
Bihar - 14 lakhs
CP Berar - 32 lakhs
CI - 26 lakhs
Rajasthan - 57 lakhs
Nizam/Andhra - 36 lakhs
Mysore - 60 lakhs
Others - 22 lakhs
TOTAL - 8.58 crore

The film should finish with lifetime business in the 47-48 crore nett region.

Verdict: HIT

The Lunchbox has garnered mind blowing reviews from the critic and is gaining a good word of mouth. But, it is a small release with only 400 screens on multiplexes. It managed to rake up 1.2 crores on opening day which was perfect considering the 5 crores budget of the film. The Lunchbox has fared exceptionally well in its first weekend at the domestic box office. The film has collected approx 2.25 crore from Mumbai circuit and 1.3 crore in Delhi/UP.

In Mysore on Sunday, The Lunchbox came close to beating Phata Poster Nikhla Hero on way fewer screens. The circuit has contributed a healthy figure of Rs 45 lakhs, even though the opening on Friday was poor.

The film has collected 6.13 core in its first weekend. Morning shows on Monday had a decent turnout and the word-of-mouth is excellent in major cities. The Lunchbox could add around 3-3.5 crore during the weekdays to take its first week business to 9-10 crore.

The weekend breakdown is as follows:

Friday – 1.1 crore
Saturday – 2.08 crore
Sunday – 2.95 crore
Weekend Total – 6.13 crore
