Music Review; Gunday (2014) *Priyanka Chopra - Ranveer Singh - Arjun Kapoor*

Director: Ali Abbas Zafar
Cast: Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor & Priyanka Chopra
Music Director: Sohail Sen
Lyricist: Irshad Kamil

Expectations: Sohail Sen has proven his versatility with the films like 'What's Your Raashee', 'Mere Brother Ki Dulhan' and 'Ek Tha Tiger'. YRF use to have good music in almost every film they make, So obviously we expect good quality music here.

1- Jashn-e-Ishqa - (Javed Ali & Shadab Faridi): Peppy and full on masti song. It impresses from the start. It's celebration of love, power and friendship. Music arrangements are amazing and all credit for this song goes to Sohail Sen. Shadab Faridi and Javed Ali sing the song neatly and beautifully. Lyrics are also good. This track set the mood of the album. Rating 3.5/5

2- Tune Maari Entriyaan - (Bappi Lahiri, KK, Neeti Mohan & Vishal Dadlani): The track has some amazing beats and powerful vocals. Again, the energy in the song and the rendition by KK, Vishal Dadlani and Neeti Mohan is sure to get the feet tapping. We are forced to give 0.5 extra for mindblowing beats Sohail Sen has used. Rating 4/5

3- Jiya - (Arijit Singh): Beautiful romantic track. Arijit Singh at his best. The track is based on a haunting tune backed by exotic and melange arrangements. This song has everything, beautiful lyrics, soothing tune, melodious and beautiful vocals, amazing impact. Rating 4.5/5

4- Asalaam-e-Ishqum - (Bappi Lahiri & Neha Bhasin): It creates a retro and modern feel. Neha Bhasin and Bappi Lahiri take the song to a new level, Super singing! The track has potential to be a huge party hit. Rating 3.5/5

5- Saaiyaan - (Shahid Mallya): Very soothing start with Shahid Mallya's beautiful vocals. The song is all about heartbreak. Lyrics are praiseworthy. Irshad Kamil has again proven in this album that he is one of the best lyricists in the country. Rating 4/5

6- Mann Kunto Maula - (Altamash Faridi & Shadab Faridi): Amir Khusrau's famous poem gets a modern twist here. It gets modern qawwali treatment by the composer. Shadab and Altamash Faridi are outstanding in the department when it comes to this genre. The use of guitar in a qawwali sounds amazingly beautiful. Rating 4/5

7- Gunday - (Sohail Sen & Kinga Rhymes): The track starts with the rap by Kinga Rhymes. This is a happy sounding title track. It would have not been so good without the Kinga Rhymes-rap though. 2 minutes and 45 seconds which describe the two male characters in the movie. Rating 4/5

8- Rhythm Of Jashn-e-Ishqa - (Shadab Faridi): Rhythm of Jashn-e-Ishqa has Shadab doing an improv around the phrase in a short, BGM-type reprise. Arrangements are good. Rating 4/5

9- Mann Kunto Maula (Classical) - (Altamash Faridi & Shadab Faridi): This one is, as title suggests, a classic version of original qawwali, so this one is more soothing. It kept reminding us of 'Kun Faaya Kun' from 'Rockstar'. Beautiful! Rating 4.5/5

10- Tune Maari Entriyaan (Bangla Version) - (Bappi Lahiri & Monali Thakur): High on fun and masti song. We missed the energetic vocals of KK and Voishal Dadlani, but still, Bappi Lahiri has done a great job here. Monali Thakur is, as usual, awesome! Bangla lyrics are not very hard to understand. Rating 4/5

NOTE: Sohail Sen has done a very good job in this album. There are songs for everyone, for every mood.
