Music Review; 2 States (2014) *Arjun Kapoor - Alia Bhatt*

Director: Abhishek Varman
Cast: Arjun Kapoor & Alia Bhatt
Music Director: Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy (All Tracks)
Lyricist: Amitabh Bhattacharya

1- Offo - (Amitabh Bhattacharya & Aditi Singh Sharma): A youthful track, based on electric guitar with a rock feeling. The song is not any different or something new, but catchy is it. Both singers, Aditi Singh Sharma and Amitabh Bhattacharya have done a fab job. They completely own the song. Lyrics are quite chilled. Rating 3/5

2- Locha-E-Ulfat - (Benny Dayal): A foot tapping track which impresses hugely. It just grabs your attention from the start. Beautifully created tunes with amazing beats. Locha-e-Ulfat's infectious bagpipe hook is one of its kind. Good to see S-E-L in top form again. Benny Dayal, the hit machine, sings it to perfection. Awesome singing. Lyrics are simply fab. Amitabh Bhattacharya's creativity oozes like never before. A winner song. Rating 4.5/5

3- Mast Magan - (Arijit Singh & Chinmayi Sripada): 'Mast Magan' has a sufi soul. You will get a déjà vu, simply because the composition is quite traditional with use of Tabla but it doesn't stop you enjoying the track. The hook line is catchy and beautiful. Arijit Singh is in top form and delivers a top notch performance again. We were so excited to listen Chinmayi Sripada's beautiful vocals along with Arijit, but we are feeling disappointment because of all the work they have done with Chinmayi Sripada's vocals. It doesn't sound her voice at all. Lyrics are beautiful, meaningful and amazing. Rating 4/5

4- Iski Uski - (Shahid Mallya, Akriti Kakkar, Shankar Mahadevan, Siddharth Mahadevan, Amitabh Bhattacharya & Gaurav Gupta): A Punjabi dance track. Not very different from S-E-L's previous dance tracks, thus the heard before-ness keeps the song less interesting. Catchy hook line & good techno sounds are wasted as good tune is missing in the rest of the track. The song is saved by Amitabh’s wacky Punjabi-English lines and Shahid Mallya and Akriti Kakkar's very energetic and great singing. Rating 3/5

5- Chaandaniya - (K Mohan & Yashita Sharma): A romantic/sad track with excellent composition. This guitar based track with very hummable tune impresses big time. Use of vocal harmonies makes the song even more special. Kannan Mohan is simply superb and takes the song to a whole new level. Yashita Sharma is also great and her vocals are really loveable. But all hail to lyricist who has written so beautiful lines which touch your hearts. Rating 4.5/5

6- Hulla Re - (Shankar Mahadevan, Siddharth Mahadevan, Rasika Shekhar, Amitabh Bhattacharya & Gaurav Gupta): A very very very different but an awesome one Punjabi wedding track. A interesting blend of nagada, dhol, guitars and electronica keeps you hooked. Very catchy and energetic! Lyrics are an interesting mix of Punjabi and the occasional Tamil which is beautifully sung by Rasika Shekhar. There is one more reason for which you can't give the track a miss; Shankar Mahadevan & Siddharth Mahadevan together. It's rare to listen a father and a son both singing with the same amount of energy. Rating 4.5/5

NOTE: A rocking soundtrack by Shankar Ehsaan Loy for Dharma Production's Rom-Com who actually started the trend of youth-ish soundtracks with Dil Chahta Hai and Kal Ho Naa Ho.
